Exercise is one of the most important things you can do with your dog.  Simply taking a walk twice a day, can release pent up energy and help your dog be more balanced.  So many problem behaviors stem from a dog not getting enough exercise.  A common misconception is that if you have a large backyard for your dog to run around in, then your dog doesn’t need to be walked.  SO NOT TRUE!  Dog’s need to get out and “migrate” with you every day.  And no matter what size your yard is- 10 feet, or 10 acres- it eventually becomes just a big pen.  Of course different dogs need different amounts of exercise.  A Husky, or Border Collie is going to need much more exercise than an English Bulldog.  A good tip to help you see when your dog is getting enough exercise: watch for heavy panting, and make sure the dog stays panting for at least 20 minutes.  (Take into account the weather, and realize when it’s 100 degrees outside your dog will start panting sooner).

Loving your dog enough to commit to an exercise plan will pay off in the long run. (Walking 2 times a day 30 minutes each, or once in the morning for at least 40 minutes) Your dog will get energy out, and you can have time to bond.  Don’t forget to bring doggie bags and water!
